Welcome to Hartwell - The Northern Gate Of Cincinnati
“Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other is gold”
Greetings and Happy 2008 to all of you.
2008 is a special year as it is the 60th anniversary of the last graduating class of Hartwell High School. And the last year for the school as we knew it. Hard to believe! Guess that means we are all considered “senior citizens”!
On April 14, 2008 at our Spring Dinner at the school, we honored all Hartwell graduates as well as recognizing the Class of ’48. This was the last Spring Dinner at the school until the renovation of the school has been completed in 2010. Then it won’t be the “halls we roamed together,” nor the crowded lunchroom we ate in, the small gym where we cheered on our Warriors in basketball and gymnastics or danced with our friends or special friends as dances.
We had a good attendance, good food and a good time together at our December-Christmas luncheon. Members brought canned goods to fill baskets for Valley Interfaith Food & Clothing as well as a free will offering of fifty-eight dollars. Reverend Ed Hof, minister of Hartwell Presbyterian Church had set up and ran his Christmas electric train for the members to enjoy.
Thelma Lindner met with Mr. Kent Stephens of the Ohio Football Hall of Fame at the school. He is writing a book of high school basketball and wanted information on Hartwell basketball players. He spent several hours going through all the Hartwell High School annuals and made copies of many pages as research for his book. He had never been in Hartwell School and was very impressed and sorry to know it was going to be changed. She will let us know when she hears from him about his book. It may even talk about you!
